J. Roland Smith, will continue his service in House District 84.
With 62 of 78 precincts reporting, Smith has a commanding 72 percent of the vote, or 1,710 votes.
His competitor Susan Swanson has 664 votes. Smith, a Warrenville resident, is in one of three Aiken-area house races that will be decided in the primary since there were no Democratic competitors.
Smith has served in the state House of Representatives since 1989 and serves as the chair of the Aiken County Legislative Delegation.
North Augusta-native Bill Hixon will resume the seat his father had 50 years ago, as he took District 83 with 66 percent of the vote.
Hixon will replace Rep. Don Smith, who retired this past year wanting to spend more time with his family. Competitor Dea Baldwin earned 1,093 votes, or 33 percent.
Newcomer Bill Taylor upset Incumbent Jim Stewart in the District 86 race. Taylor earned 57.36 percent of the vote, with Stewart narrowly earning 42.64 percent of the vote.
